In High School I was always as involved as I could be with clubs and such, but when I started college I didn't keep up with it. So this semester the old Katy returned and I have gotten very involved. I forgot how much fun it is to feel apart of something that is bigger than yourself. I joined three clubs UGA Special Olympics, S.C.E.C. (Student Council for Exceptional Children), and UGAmiracle. I will be telling you more about each of them later, but below is a picture from a fundraiser I participate in for S.C.E.C. We "canned" and sold pizza downtown. Canning downtown pretty much means walking around with a can and begging drunk people to donate money to a good cause. It was quite hilarious and interesting. We also walked around selling pizza, but because it was freezing outside the pizza got cold quick, which I thought would lower the rate of sales, but apparently drunk people can't tell the difference or they just don't care. So this lasted from 11:00p.m. till 2:00a.m. It was a fun experience, but because I am NOT a frequent "downtowner" especially this late at night, I was reminded what some think college is really about. Hey, I guess that's why the University of Georgia got ranked the #1 party school this year.
