Ruby Falls

After spending the night in Chattanooga Tennessee we woke up early I drove up Lookout Mountain to visit Ruby Falls. Last year we had drove up Lookout with Jared's mom on the way home from Leslie's wedding, but we didn't have time to go see Ruby Falls, so we didn't want to miss it again. Jared said his Papa took him when he was really young, but he could hardly remember, so it was sort of a new experience for both of us.

History...Leo Lambert, a cave enthusiast formed a company in 1923 to open the Lookout Mountain cave to the public. While drilling an elevator shaft he discovered a spectacular waterfall 145 feet high and 1120 feet under the earth's surface. Mr. Lambert brought his wife, Ruby to the waterfall and named it in her honor.
(I'd like to think that was a "very romantic" night for them...that's just me though)

Right before getting on a small elevator and traveling down 260 feet into solid limestone to the Ruby Falls Trail

Poor Jared had to duck his head for 2/3 of the trail because he was too tall

If you look to the right of me there's an outlet...I don't think that was there when Mr. Lambert first discovered the falls

Throughout the cave walk there were stalagmites and stalactites that were formed in the shape of funny things

You could also walk behind the waterfall
If you looked up when you were directly behind it, it looked like diamonds were falling at you

It was VERY lovely

To end a great trip we discovered that we had a flat tire while we were coming down the mountain and of course there weren't any tire places around, so we had to take an interesting detour, but we made it on time to Jared's game and he even pulled out a hat-trick (scored three goals)!

What a fun trip! The waterfall is gorgeous! It reminds me of a Disneyland ride for some reason. :)
